Books by Hubbard Before Roycroft was Founded

The Man - pseudonym of Aspasia Hobbs, co-authored (surreptitiously) with Alice Moore, later Alice Hubbard (J.S. Ogilvie, 1890)

One Day - A Tale of the Praries (Arena Publishing, 1893)

Forbes of Harvard (Arena Publishing, March, 1894)

No Enemy But Himself (Putnam's/Knickerbocker Press, 1894)

An article in The Arena (June, 1894), entitled A New Disease, regarding hate as a "new disease", generally.

An Example from Putnam Editions of Hubbard's Little Journeys series (December, 1894)

Here is an interesting variant: these are bound editions, printed by Putnams, but definitely bound by the Roycrofters.

End Papers

Walter Blackburne Harte in December 1895 started publishing "The Fly Leaf," a chapbook. As the photos below show, in the April 1896 edition, he announced his partnership with Hubbard and the merger of the Fly Leaf with the Philistine. That was short-lived.

This is a bound edition of the Fly Leaf and appears to me to have been bound by the same folk who bound the Philistine!
